DA: What inspired you to venture into the entertainment industry?

Mr. Seyi Brown: I grew up in a household filled with laughter, my dad who was a clergy was very hilarious and I most definitely inherited his sense of humor.

DA: When you discovered your talents, what steps did you take?

Mr. Seyi Brown: Instinct told me to reach out to Alibaba. I did when I saw him at a Sheraton event in Lagos, and to my surprise, he said I should come and see him. I was too afraid to go, so I understudied him by watching his clips then other comedians like Eddie Murphy, jammie foxx, Chris rock, and a host of others.

DA: When did you receive a major breakthrough in your career?

Mr. Seyi Brown: Major breakthrough came through THE LAGOS LOTTERY TV GAME SHOW and DOCTOR’s QUARTERS.

DA: Did you have to undergo any special training to become a great show host and MC? Or was it majorly self development?

Mr. Seyi Brown: Like I said earlier, I understudied Alibaba, Basorge, Julius Agwu, Okey bakasi, from at a distance and learnt on the job. TV hosting came natural but I had to do a lot of self development, majorly by practicing in front of the mirror.

DA: How were you able to create a brand from your talent, and what specific steps did you take?

Mr. Seyi Brown: My career choice really helped. I started entertainment via modeling, runway and commercial modeling, so my first TV gig was a makeover TV show called STYLE QUEST which paved the way for me.

Also I tend not to do my stand up in Pidgin English. So I cater to a specific clientele though I can reach across the board to pidgin audiences but I am comfortable doing my routine in English.

DA: Social media is a great marketing tool for small businesses. How were you able to use it as leverage and not a distraction?

Mr. Seyi Brown: I am still learning on the job. I am more active on Facebook, but someone introduced me to IG and so far it’s been a great tool.

DA: What do you do to improve yourself daily and stay ahead in the industry?

Mr. Seyi Brown: Never stop learning.

  1. To stay relevant you have to be current. Do researches; listen to the news, current affairs, social, political/economic issues.
  2. Read, go out, socialize, network.

DA: What is your advice to young entrepreneurs in the entertainment industry? Especially on how to get their work out there?

Mr. Seyi Brown: Like Teju baby face teaches; you need a mentor/role model

Attend seminars/courses to improve your skills. As we speak I am taking acting classes. Do all you can to improve your skills so when the opportunity comes, you kill every show.
