Mr. Oyedele is a digital Entrepreneur, photographer and creative director of Forbes Images. He shares his journey into photography with us, and considering the fact that it was a self learnt skill, it emphasizes the fact that there are no excuses permitted through the windows of greatness.
DA: Have you always aspired to be a photographer or was it something that was born out of hustle?
Forbes Images: If you asked me 10, 15 years ago what I wanted to be, I would most definitely reply you “I want to be a doctor”, so definitely it wasn’t what I aspired to be, it’s a hobby I picked along the way, fell in love with, and turned it to a profession.
DA: When you decided to start up, what major steps did you take?
Forbes Images: After discovering my passion, the first major step I took was to get a professional camera, and a few other gadgets. I then became devoted to YouTube, always learning and practicing new stuffs.
I made friends with established photographers which invariably became my mentors; thereby acquiring experience and knowledge from them, which I applied consistently.
DA: How did you raise money to expand your business and how much did you invest?
Forbes Images: I was able to raise money from savings, grants from family and loan from friends, all of these combined was how I expanded, about 2million worth of investment.
DA: How were you able to get your first camera, other equipment and your studio?
Forbes Images: I got my first camera after years of pestering my parents as a gift from my mum, and then I started saving from paid jobs to acquire other equipments
DA: How do you improve yourself daily to stay ahead of the competition?
Forbes Images: Continuous learning and practising
DA: What tools do you use for editing to achieve your high level of quality images?
Forbes Images: Captureone/ lightroom, photoshop
DA: What major mistakes do young photographers make when building their brands?
Forbes Images: A major mistake photographers make while building their brands is comparing themselves with others. If you really want to go far, never compare yourself with others
DA: What is your advice to young entrepreneurs?
Forbes Images: My advice to young entrepreneurs is – start where you are, you don’t have to get the big budget capital or own the best tool before you start, start with whatever you have and watch yourself grow with time.
